True Five: What Your Traits Actually Say

60 questions from a public-domain research inventory, scored against 404,041 people. All five percentiles are free. The reading tells you what your strongest trait buys you, what it costs, which work environments fit it, and what to actually work on, with the evidence for each claim named.

What you get

  • All five trait percentiles, free, no paywall on the numbers
  • Your strongest signal, and how many people share your combination
  • What that trait actually buys you, in specific terms
  • Where the exact same trait costs you, and the tell to watch for
  • Which work environments fit your profile, and which grind it down
  • What to work on, in if-then form, and what won't work for you
  • How your second-strongest trait changes the first
  • What this test can and can't tell you, with the numbers

How it works

60 statements drawn from the IPIP-NEO-120, a public-domain inventory used in peer-reviewed research. Your answers are scored on the five factors of the Big Five and compared to a reference sample of 404,041 people, matched to your sex and age.

  1. 1Every statement is verbatim from the International Personality Item Pool, public domain, not our invention
  2. 2Our 60-item form agrees with the full 120-item inventory at r = .94–.97, measured on 202,473 held-out respondents
  3. 3Internal consistency of the five scales: α = .70–.83
  4. 4Percentiles come from Johnson (2014), 404,041 people, matched on sex and age band
  5. 5Reversed statements are included on purpose: they catch answers that just agree with everything
  6. 6The work section names its evidence: trait-to-interest correlations from meta-analysis for two traits, working conditions for the other three, because that is where the data actually is
  7. 7The growth section is written as if-then plans, the format that produced measurable trait change in the intervention research
  8. 8The five percentiles are the measurement. The archetype name is our shorthand for the pattern, a label, not a category found in nature
